Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on Thursday announced setting-up of transplant and public health universities in the State during a function in Vadodara.
While inaugurating an industrial exhibition organised by the Vadodara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Patel also made another important announcement pertaining to organ donation policy. She said that these efforts of the State Government would take the healthcare system in Gujarat to another level.
“Thousands of kidney operations are being done in Gujarat every year. Similarly, liver too can be transplanted if received in donation. Rejoining a hand amputated in accident is another medical practice. In the month of March, the State Government will move a Bill in the Assembly to set up a transplant university, she further said.
Emphasising on the need to bring awareness regarding public health and prevention of diseases, she said that the concept of public health university is aimed at these purposes. "Donations and transplantation of eyes, livers and kidney take place but there is no policy on this important subject. Transplant university and policy on organ donation will make this area more organised," she said adding that the State Health Department was asked to handover details on it in next fortnight.
Speaking on the occasion, she said that staging six successful editions of V Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit has resulted in several foreign investors lining up to make huge investments in Gujarat. As many as eight countries joining Gujarat as Partner Countries in the seventh edition, is no small achievement, she said.
The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for 'Make in India' has become a mantra for development, as it opened up the innovative ideas for 'Skill India' and 'Digital India', not to lose sight of a 'Clean India', either. She reiterated her Government's commitment not to lag behind in the race. Talking about rapid urbanisation and growth of mega cities, she said the Government is seeking answer to the issue through smart cities and metro rail projects for cities like Ahmedabad.
