'Translocation may not be the best thing'

Published on:

A section of conservationists strongly feel that translocation of lions to Kuno may not be the best thing in conservation for the majestic endangered majestic species. According to them, it is a very important tiger corridor, proving to be an ideal stepping stone for the choc a bloc Ranthambore.

There are about six to eight sub-adult males that are on the verge of dispersal. Ranthambore is barely 15 km from Kuno, which is just across the Chambal River. Further, Kaila Devi in the North, getting ready for tiger population, would provide a crucial link between the two reserves, increasing the frequency and number of tiger visits to Kuno.

It is difficult for the two majestic species to co-exist, feet the experts. Doubts have also been raised on prey base in Kuno to sustain the lion population.
