Indian Railways have restored services between Howrah and Puri section after Cyclone Phailin lost its intensity on Sunday. The cyclone hit coast of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on Saturday night.

However, services between Khurda Road station and Palsa remain suspended as the restoration work on the track is still continuing, an East Coast Railway spokesperson said. The services were restored between Howarh and Puri after necessary repair of overhead equipment, checking of signalling system and removal of uprooted trees and debris from the railway tracks.

Railways had on Saturday cancelled all trains between certain sections as a precautionary measure due to the cyclone. “Since the railway line to Puri from Howrah has been declared fit by East Coast Railway after proper inspection, train running to Puri will resume from the evening of October 13,” the South Eastern Railway said in the release. The Howrah-Puri Sri Jagannath Express and the Howrah-Puri Express scheduled to leaving Howrah at 7.00 pm and 10.35 pm respectively would run on the normal route, the release said. A few trains which were cancelled were rescheduled, it said.
