An employee of the Delhi Government's trade and taxes department, who was under the scanner for Rs2.5 crore theft in the office on May 9, allegedly committed suicide in his Uttam Nagar residence last Saturday. The deceased, identified as Pitamber Mahto, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his house in Press Enclave colony in Vikas Nagar near Uttam Nagar in West Delhi.

Police have recovered a suicide note from him where he has accused his senior officials of trying to frame him in the theft which took place in the office on May 9 in which cash and gold worth around Rs2.5 crore were stolen.

Mahto has claimed that the robbery was planned by his seniors and now they are putting the blame on him leaving him with no option but to take the extreme step, police sources said.

Officials of the same department registered a complaint and informed them about a carton missing from the tenth floor of the department's building adjacent to Delhi Police Headquarters with seven kilogram of gold and Rs10 lakh cash.

His family, meanwhile, have approached Ranholla police station and seeking a probe into the allegations made by Mahto in his suicide note.
