Incessant rain for the past two days has disrupted normal life. However, the rainfall coupled with snowy conditions in upper reaches of the hills for the past two days seems to have given a momentum to the tourism activities that remain rather a low key affair during this season in the Himalayan State.
Though the atmospheric temperature was already low in upper pockets of the Himalayan State, the incessant rainfall has now also added to the chill of ongoing winter season in rather hot Terai belt of Uttarakhand.
More so, the weather experts have not ruled out continuation of the prevailing weather conditions in this northern Himalayan region for a longer period. The fact of the matter is that many parts of the Himalayan State including this Terai belt also witnessed incessant rain since early Saturday morning.
Incessant rainfall that continued throughout the day in different parts of the hill State, including Haldwani gave a kind of impression that as if it is a rainy season. As incessant rain continued to hit normal life in different parts of the region on Sunday, schoolchildren, office-goers and professionals heaved a sigh of relief as they had not to go out to perform their routine schedule.
People living in upper regions like Nainital whose economy is mainly dependent on tourism welcomed the sudden change in the atmospheric conditions as they were expecting more tourists after the rainy season.
However, mobility remained restricted in other parts of the region due to incessant rain throughout the day. Atmospheric temperature was recorded below 5 degree Celsius in city like Nainital, upper Himalayan region like Munsyari in Pithoragarh recorded around 1 degree Celsius following change in weather conditions.
Waterlogging caused by the rain showers also disrupted vehicular traffic on city roads in plains like Haldwani.
The Haldwani- Kaladhungi Road, the Haldwani- Bareilly Road could be seen full of rain water affecting vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement.
It is note that the occurrence of rainfall was a long overdue as there was hardly any rainfall here after a brief spell of rain caused by the arrival of the Hudhud cyclone in the southern parts of the country in mid October last.
