Congress on Monday expressed serious concern over ‘total failure’ of public order in Andhra Pradesh in the wake of Kapu quota agitation and urged the Chandrababu Naidu-led Government to immediately address the concern of the community.
Addressing the media, AICC spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “Present agitation is reflective of the total failure on the part of the Chandrababu Naidu-TDP Government and its ally BJP in delivering the governance and keeping promises made to the people by the ruling dispensation prior to elections.”
The Rajya Sabha member further said that total lack of focus on development and aspirations of the people on part of the State Government as also the Centre is resulting in people taking up agitations for reservation/affirmative action to fulfil their aspirations —something that could have ordinarily been achieved in normal course of administration and governance
“It is symptomatic of complete lack of governance as in several BJP or BJP allied States. If there was an index of negative governance, we would have marked it on negative index but certainly instead of zero tolerance on so-many vices, here you are having zero governance. There is no grip of the administration or of the State Government,” Singhvi added.
The party also recalled that in 2014, that the TDP president Chandra Babu Naidu had promised to provide reservation in education and jobs for the ‘Kapu’ community as part of his campaign. “The manifesto of the BJP on page 27 promises reservation. This is rank opportunism and playing to the gallery and then you are unable to do it, you create the false expectation,” he pointed.
“Related to this is the clear pattern and paradigm of autocratic behavior bordering on fascism as far as the BJP ruled States or BJP controlled governance is concerned. We are seeing an example of this kind of autocracy and fascism as far as Rohith Vemula’s case is concerned,” Singhvi said.
