In a laudable initiative, the Cyberabad Police Commissioner has wielded a long broom to cleanse his force of corruption and money extortion by the men in khaki in the name of “hafta” or “mamool” from shopkeepers.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand admitted that policemen were extorting money from the bars, restaurants and shops in their areas to maintain and run their police station. He further said that now this could not be an excuse to continue this sordid practice as the Telangana Government has allotted Rs25,000 to Rs75,000 per police station only for the maintenance.
“Moreover, the Government has also enhanced the salary of the employees by 43 per cent”, he said in a meeting of senior police officers and ordered them to remove the men from the duties like “road masters” and “mamool collectors”. “The Telangana Government has sanctioned huge funds to the police force and it is our duty to make Telangana Police the best force in the country”, he added.
