Maharashtra Chief Minister Prirthviraj Chavan on Tuesday expressed strong reservations about the manner in which the BJP-led NDA Government was compelling the students and teachers to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on the Teachers’ Day on September 5. “The Centre has issued a circular directing the students and teachers to listen to the Prime Minister’s address on the occasion of Teachers Day. We have no objection to Prime Minister interacting with students. But, the improper manner in which the Centre is compelling the students to listen to the PM’s address has resulted in resentment among teachers and parents in the State,” Chavan said. “The entire official machinery is being used as a propaganda machine for one individual. The tone of the circular is not good and we will take it up at an appropriate forum,” the Chief Minister said. He was referring to a circular issued at the behest of the Smriti Irani-headed Union Human Resource Ministry, directing the schools aross the to make arrangements for the Prime Minister’s address between 2.30 pm to 5 pm on September 5.
