Opening a broadside against the Narendra Modi Government the Trinamool Congress will hit the streets in protest against Centre’s policy to link Aadhaar card with mid-day meal scheme.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who earlier called the Centre’s policy to make mid-day meal schemes “Aadhaar compliant” shocking instructed her party men to hit the streets so that “the BJP and its Government in the Centre can be exposed before the people.”
She said “now even the children will need Aadhaar cards. This is shocking. After attacking the poor people by making Aadhar card mandatory for 100-days’ work scheme the Centre has now hit the small children.”
The Trinamool Congress will take out protest rallies to against this anti-people policy of the Centre, senior party leader and Minister Partho Chatterjee said.
Apart from rallying against the Centre on the Aadhaar issue Banerjee has also decided to raise the issue of renaming West Bengal with the Centre.
According to the sources, State Chief Secretary Basudeb Banerjee has already written a letter to New Delhi asking it to facilitate the process of rechristening the State as “Bengal,” “Bangla” and “Bangal” the names that were passed by the State Assembly a year ago.
“They are simply sitting on the proposal. If they have problem they can simply inform us about that. But they are only trying to delay the process of renaming the State. This is a clear political mischief being played by the BJP which does not want the State to be renamed,” a senior Trinamool leader quoting Banerjee said.
The Mamata Banerjee Government had in April 2016 passed a proposal in the State Assembly changing the present name of the State which is called West Bengal and rechristened it as “Bengal” in English, “Bangla” in Bengali and “Bangal” in Hindi.
“The people of Bengal have wanted the name to be changed but the BJP is thwarting that demand. The people will give it a befitting reply” the Chief Minister was quoted as saying. The State BJP had earlier gone on record objecting to the change of name.
