The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday got a new appellation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who told an election rally that “TMC today stands for Terror, Maut (death) and Corruption.”
Mocking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the Narada sting and the flyover collapse, Modi told election rallies at Birpara in North Bengal and Asansol down South, how fighting corruption was once on top of the TMC supremo’s agenda when “Mamata Didi would hit the streets at the drop of a hat.”
“Today she is silent when her leaders are caught on camera taking wads of notes in lieu of favours. Has she said a word on itIJ Has she expelled them from her partyIJ Did she put them in jailIJ No. This means Didi has made adjustment with corruption, and so it means that she should be sent back home in the elections,” the Prime Minister told a mammoth crowd at Birpara.
Accusing Mamata of playing politics over the recent flyover collapse that killed 26 people and injured about a hundred in Kolkata Modi said, “It is normal for us to rescue trapped people after such accidents. But here was a Chief Minister who reached the spot and started blaming the left Front for constructing the flyover.” Modi added that the flyover had fallen, “not because it was an act of God, but because it was an act of fraud” committed by the building syndicates propped by the ruling outfit.
Coming down heavily on the politician-building mafia nexus in Bengal, Modi said the whole polity in Bengal was being controlled by the syndicates that were in turn controlled by the TMC.
“Right from building syndicates to sandalwood syndicates worth hundreds of crores, they are all running under the patronage of the ruling party” he maintained, adding that God had sent a message to the people of Bengal to “do away with this corrupt Government.”
Attacking the left Front and the Congress equally for their political hypocrisy the Prime Minister said, “while in Kerala the Congress and the left are engaged in kushti (fight) in Bengal they are indulging in dosti (friendship) which means they are befooling the people in both the States.” He wondered whether the people should repose faith in those people whose dependability and credibility was in question.
