A day after resuming her attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi from a Trinamool Congress mass rally in Kolkata, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee proceeded further to keep the BJP under pressure by deciding to send a team of MPs to Una in Gujarat on a fact-finding mission.

The parliamentary delegation headed by TMC spokesperson Derek O’ Brien would inquire into the incidents of alleged attacks on Dalits and would also visit a hospital in Rajkot where the victims are undergoing treatment, party sources said.

Banerjee, who had on Thursday said that the Central Government led by Modi was killing federalism by making unnecessary interferences in the State affairs and unleashing CBI and ED on the Opposition leaders also termed the Una incident as an “organised crime.”

She said, “The incident in Una is an organised crime against Dalits. I urge the Central Government to treat Dalits with care and give full protection. This is unacceptable,” following which her party raised the issue in Parliament.

The three TMC MPs who would visit Gujarat on Saturday are Derek O’Brien, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Pratima Mandal, party sources said.

Incidentally Banerjee had from the podium of July 21 Trinamool Congress Martyrs’ Day rally given vent to her national ambitions saying though she did not want to become the Prime Minister she would definitely back the regional parties so that are able to play a role in Delhi.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident Bengal Congress president Adhir Chowdhury and Opposition leader Abdul Mannan left for Delhi to meet Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.

The decision takes place a day after a host of Congress leaders, including an MlA and 14 councilors, joining the Trinamool Congress. A CPI(M) MlA also joined the Trinamool on July 21.
