TMC MPs stage walkout, allege misuse of CBI

Published on:

Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) MPs on Monday  protested the alleged misuse of the CBI by the Centre in the Saradha chit fund scam and staged a walkout in lok Sabha as the Government sought to say that they should not defend “the tainted people” .

As soon as the House met for the day, members from TMC members rushed to the Well, shouting slogans against the Government, accusing it of misusing the CBI.

They referred to the president of a political party, saying he was behind the investigation agency targeting Trinamool leaders. The TMC members said when BJP was in opposition, it used to dub CBI as ‘Congress Bureau of Investigation’.

Saugata Roy (TMC) said the CBI should no longer remain under the control of the Prime Minister and its operational control should be handed over to anti-corruption watchdog, lokpal.

The TMC members returned to  their seats when Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu rose to make a statement.

Pointing to the TMC protest , Naidu retorted that political battle can not be a substitute for a legal battle and maintained that the present Government did not believe in misusing the CBI like the previous UPA Government.

He said, “Don’t come to the rescue of people who are tainted or you will get a bad name.”Naidu also condemned a  reference to the BJP president in the House. After a verbal duel with BJP members, Trinamool MPs staged a walkout.

When the TMC members were leaving the House, one of them, Sultan Ahmed, displayed a photograph purportedly showing Sahara group chief Subrata Roy shaking hands with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Naidu protested the act and sought intervention of  Speaker saying they it was against the parliamentary rules and they should be named.

Speaking to newspersons outside Parliament, Union Naidu said, “TMC did hungama in house, they should know that if you throw a boomerang it will come back and hit you.”

“The GoI has nothing to do with the CBI probe into the case,” he said.

Urging the TMC MPs to allow the smooth functioning of Parliament, Naidu said, “West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra has been arrested not for sharing dais with someone but for sharing money.”

Naidu made these remarks shortly after the TMC MPs draped themselves in black shawls and staged a protest outside Parliament in protest against the arrest of West Bengal Transport Minister over his alleged involvement in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
