TMC MlA draws flak for rape remarks

The Bengal Opposition parties on Thursday went up in revolt against yet another rape speech by a Trinamool leader this time an MlA and demanded his expulsion from the House.

In what could sound outrageous in a civilised world, Dipak Halder a Trinamool MlA from Diamond Harbour on Thursday tended to pick up from where the party MP Tapas Pal left a few months ago saying rape was an age-old tradition and would continue till the world lived.

Haldar told in a public meeting on Wednesday evening that “rape was there earlier. It continues to be there today and it will remain in future as long as the world lives.”

He did not stop there and went on to cast aspersions on the women “who have lived with males for more than seven years charge their partners with rape after they stop getting money from their partners.”

BJP MP Chandan Mitra said the BJP strongly condemned the statement wondering whether the Trinamool Government would take any action against him.

“Where such comments are passed off as small incidents can we expect action in this case.”

Reacting to the comments made by Halder, BJP State president Rahul Sinha said the “he has made a statement befitting a Trinamool leader. They have crossed all limits of decency and decorum” adding it was futile to call for justice from the Chief Minister who was herself a woman because she had refused to punish other party men.

“We are into a jungle raj. Such types of comments can only be made by a Trinamool leader. He should not be allowed to continue as an MlA,” Sujan Chakrabarty former CPI(M) MP said.
