Ambiya Sohrab who drove an Audi at more than 100 kmph on Thursday before crushing to death an Indian Air Force official who at Kolkata’s busy Red Road still remained at large even as the IAF sources differed with the police version of the accident.
The police said there were probably three persons inside the vehicle when it broke three guard rails before hitting Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud who was then supervising the rehearsal for Republic Day parade. On the other hand the IAF sources said there was only one person inside the car.
Meanwhile even as the accused remained at large the investigating authorities have stumbled upon a huge fleet of up market vehicles crammed in his garage. His father an ex-MlA and a fruit merchant is currently a Trinamool Congress leader.
“He owns a large fleet of vehicles including Hummer, Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari in addition to pricey two-wheelers. “The vehicles together would cost about Rs7 crore,” said an official. Curiously however his father Md Sohrab declared an asset of Rs70 lakh while filing his nomination papers.
Meanwhile, forensic experts who conducted test on the offensive car on Thursday said it was being driven at a speed of 100 kmph when the accident happened.
