In a triple whammy of sorts for the ruling Trinamool Congress, three of its senior leaders, including MP Sougato Roy, Kolkata Mayor and Minister Sovan Chatterjee and his wife Ratna had been served with notices from CBI and Income Tax Department, sources said.
CBI had summoned Roy on August 31 to record his statements on Narada pay off case where the MP was purportedly seen accepting Rs 5 lakh from a sting journalist who posed as a prospective investor in the State. Roy could not respond to the earlier summon on account of his engagements in Parliament.
Chatterjee — the blue eyed of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee — who was earlier summoned by the ED in the same case had once again been summoned by the CBI, sources said. He was likely to be asked to explain the reason why he accepted cash from a sting journalist sitting inside his office.
The CBI had on Monday questioned senior leader and Minister Subroto Mukherjee on the Narada issue. Mukherjee who was also grilled by the ED in the same case said his answer was no different from what he said earlier adding the cash was taken from electoral purposes.
