TMC attacks Modi, Shah over CBI probe

Apparently nervous about the steadily slipping ground beneath their feet in the wake of CBI probe in the Saradha chit fund scam, the Trinamool Congress leadership on Wednesday launched a broadside against the BJP leadership accusing it of "using the CBI for political purposes."

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah Trinamool general secretary Partho Chattopadhyay said, “They are today using the CBI for political purpose in order to get the better of the Trinamool Congress and our supremo Mamata Banerjee who enjoys an untainted political career and who has throughout her life fought for the poorer section of the society.”

Asking the BJP to answer “from where you got such huge funds for propogating Narendra Modi’s candidature for Prime Minister”, Chatterjee, who is also the State Education Minister said, “The BJP should first explain the sources of its electoral funds that it spent before the General polls.”

Attacking Shah for “trying to bring chaos in Bengal”, Chatterjee said, “One Mr Shah who attacked the Trinamool on Saradha a few days ago has now been asked by a Mumbai court to remain present on daily basis in a trail in the Shahabuddin case.”

Curiously though, Chatterjee was severe on the BJP leadership while the statements from his party colleague MP Sudip Bandopadhyay tended to contradict his even as he said, “we do not for now see CBI over-stepping its brief in victimising our political leadership” adding his party “do not rule out such actions in future.”

Bandopadhyay said his party MPs would meet the Prime Minister at his residence with a memorandum “so that the CBI that is no used for political purpose” in Saradha case.

Meanwhile, State BJP president Rahul Sinha demanded a statement from the CM on the reported agreement struck between the IRCTC and Saradha Tours and Travels when she was the Railway Minister.
