TMC, Mithun trade fire

War of words ensued between Mithun Chakrabarty and the Trinamool Congress with the latter calling the Mumbai mega star a “back stabber” who had no political commitment but “only looks for political convenience.” Chakrabarty hit back saying “those who resort to insulting other would one day fade into oblivion.”

The Mumbai actor who joined the BJP just before the 2021 Bengal Assembly elections was presently engaged in “Jan Sampark” (public relations) campaign in Bengal.

Referring to Chakrabarty’s claims that some TMC leaders were in touch with him and many would soon start joining the saffron outfit TMC Rajya Sabha MP Shantanu Sen said that Mumbai actor’s presence would only benefit the TMC as “no one takes him seriously and wherever will go the Trinamool Congress’ votes will increase as it happened in the last year’s Assembly elections.”

Claiming that Chakrabarty had been forced to campaign for the BJP Sen said “no one knows under whose pressure he has come to campaign for the BJP … no one knows whom he wants to save … himself or his son … in any case Mithun da’s presence will only help the Trinamool Congress in Bengal.”

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh attacked Chakrabarty for back-stabbing Mamata Banerjee. “There are some people who have no political commitment …  they only work to soothe their political convenience … He started as a naxalite, then he drew close to the Jyoti Basu and then Buddhadeb Bhattacharya … then he became a TMC MP and back-stabbed us before joining the BJP … so he has no credibility … no one will take him seriously … like it was in 2021 Assembly elections when he drew large crowds but little votes,” Ghosh said.
