Ride-hailing platform Rapido has clarified that Hrithik Kumar, one of the three accused arrested in connection with the firing incident targeting Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai, had not been active as a platform captain since October 14.
Kumar, 22, was reportedly associated with Rapido as a gig worker. In a statement, the company said it was concerned about the incident and relieved that Shroff was safe. It also wished the actor a speedy recovery.
Rapido stated that Kumar had not worked as a captain on its platform for four days before the October 18 shooting. The company added that gig workers in India may be registered with multiple platforms simultaneously.
The firm further said Kumar had used Rapido as a customer on the day of the firing.
Kumar, who hails from Begusarai in Bihar, has completed Class 12 and had reportedly been living in Mumbai for nearly two months before the incident.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has traced the ownership history of the unregistered Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle allegedly used in the attack. The bike reportedly changed hands four times since 2022 without the ownership transfers being formally registered.
According to police, an accused identified as Ritik purchased the motorcycle on September 11. The vehicle was allegedly used in the crime and later abandoned near Andheri railway station.
Rajjab Ali Shaikh, the motorcycle’s third owner, said his family sold it through a chain of acquaintances for approximately Rs 25,000 to Rs 26,000. He said they were unaware of its alleged use in the shooting until police approached them after the incident. The family has expressed willingness to cooperate with investigators.
Kumar, along with Phool Singh Naresh, 18, and Rehan Rahiussudin, 22, both from Haryana, was arrested aboard the Pune–Jaipur Superfast Express after it reached Kota, Rajasthan, on October 19.
Mumbai Crime Branch DCP Raj Tilak Roshan said no weapon had been recovered from the three suspects. Police also found a motorcycle allegedly used in the attack in Mumbai's Andheri area.
Investigators said the accused allegedly travelled from Andheri to Borivali by local train before taking a cab to Surat and subsequently travelling to Kota by train.
Five to six rounds were reportedly fired at Shroff's car in Juhu. Shroff sustained minor burn injuries to his arm from gunpowder, while his driver and an autorickshaw driver were injured.
A fourth accused, identified as Sameer, was arrested in Sonipat, Haryana, over his suspected involvement in the wider conspiracy.
Anil Pandit, who claims to be associated with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has claimed responsibility for the attack in an unverified social media post. The claim has not been independently established.
The investigation into the firing incident is ongoing.
