launching its campaign, ‘War against acid violence’ in North India, Acid Survivor Foundation India (ASFI), an initiative of SREI Foundation, inaugurated Trauma Informed Care Kit (TICK) to partner NGOs to ensure adequate compensation and rehabilitation to acid attack victims, on Monday at Indian Habitat Centre.

The event in the presence of chairperson of National Commission for Women, lalita Kumaramangalam, former Governor of Kerala, Nikhil Kumar and others in association with the ASFI brought into light ‘the gravity of the heinous crime’ inflicted mainly on women, and their contribution towards helping the victim survivors.

The data proposed by National Director and CEO, ASFI, Rahul Varma, highlighted that 65 per cent of the victims are women and 35 per cent of them, men. It also stated that 87 per cent tend to be male perpetrators and are 84 per cent of them are known to the victims.

“I was attacked by my friend and her brother out of jealousy when I used to work as a dancer at a hotel,” says an acid attack survivor. She added that acid victims have to suffer a lot since they have to struggle through legal battles and are publically asked to uncover their faces to ‘see’ the damage done to them.

The same idea was supported by NCW chief who said, “Acid-attack survivors should be treated beyond empathy and pity as they are individuals who seek their self-respect like of us.”
