Communal tension prevailed in Bijnore after a case of eve-teasing led to daylight shoot-out that left at least three persons dead and over a dozen others with injuries.
The situation could be harnessed after senior officers rushed to the scene with additional force from the district and neighbouring Amroha and Moradabad. Half a dozen persons were arrested and heavy police force was patrolling the area to avert any flare-up.
ADG (law and order) Daljeet Choudhary along with Home Secretary also rushed to Bijnore to personally supervise the follow-up action and maintain peace. The State Government on annonced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh those injured in the shoot-out on Friday evening.
