Three-day RSS national executive begins today

Border security and safety of the people living in border areas, need for ensuring environmental balance in development matters and presence of radical elements in Islam will be the main points of discussion at the three-day Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal Baithak (meeting of the national executive council) of the RSS which will begin in Kochi on Friday.

Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat will inaugurate the meet at Bhaskareeyam convention centre near the Kerala RSS headquarters, Madhav Niwas, at Kochi on Friday morning. The meet, to be presided over by Sarkaryavah (national general secretary) Suresh Joshi, would review the organisational activities of the Sangh in the past one year and would discuss its plans for the future.

Manmohan Vaidya, Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, told newsmen in Kochi on Thursday that as many as 372 executives from the 11 zones (Kshetras) of the Sangh in the country and 42 provinces (Prants) will take part in the meeting. This is the first time the Karyakari Mandal Baithak, held every year between Vijaya Dashami and Diwali festivals (normally October), is being held in Kerala.

Vaidya said that security along the Indian border had now become a huge national concern and equally important was the issue of the safety of the people living in the border areas. There was a need for a strong and consistent foreign policy and reinforcement of security on the border. The meeting would discuss these issues in detail and might adopt a resolution on them.

Another issue that would come up for presentation as resolution at the meeting was that of making development possible by ensuring environmental balance, he said. “This is particularly important in the context of the current discussions on saving the Western Ghats. We need development but it should not be at the cost of the environment. There should be proper balance,” Vaidya said.

“Then there is the issue of the radical elements in Islam which is of huge concern in South India. The meeting will discuss this with the aim of adopting a resolution,” he said, adding that these three subjects had already been decided to be deliberated during the meet but more subjects could come up as the meeting progressed.

Answering queries from newsmen on the RSS stand on the Ayodhya issue, Vaidya said that the construction of Ram temple at Ramjanmabhumi was the demand of all Hindus. A temple should be built there as there was one but there was no timeframe associated with that demand.

As the meeting is taking place on the eve of elections to five State Assemblies and in the context of the coming lok Sabha polls, observers are attaching great significance to it, especially after BJP president Rajnath Singh’s participation in the meeting of the RSS Prant Pracharaks at Kochi on Thursday. Vaidya said Singh had taken ‘inputs’ from the Prant Pracharaks at their Baithak.

Asked about the political scenario, Rajnath Singh said that the BJP was confident of winning the elections to four Assemblies and of emerging victorious in the lok Sabha polls. He alleged that Congress was time and again proving that it was the worst communal party in the country, still following the divide-and-rule British tactic.

Responding to a question whether the BJP expected RSS help in the coming elections, he expressed the hope that the response would be in the level of responsible citizens. After landing in Kochi on Wednesday evening, Singh had told newsmen that his party would try its level best to open account in Kerala in the lok Sabha election. He left Kochi on Thursday evening.
