To discuss the issues relating to increasing radical elements in the Muslim community, affecting the country’s security, were discussed at the meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (national executive council) of the RSS at Kochi on Friday, the first day of the event.

Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat inaugurated the three-day meet on Friday morning with Sarkaryavah Suresh Joshi, who was presiding over the baithak, by lighting the traditional lamp in front of the picture of Mother India at the venue, Bhaskareeyam conventional centre adjacent to the Kerala RSS headquarters at Elamakkara, Kochi.

The inauguration amidst the chanting of the Unity Mantra became a truly traditional affair with the conch and the light beats of Idakka (a Kerala percussion instrument). The Karyakari Mandal Baithak, which is to conclude on Sunday, started by paying homage to the distinguished personalities who died after March this year.

The first item of the meet was the presentation of reports on organisational activities in the various States. Sarkaryavah Joshi, who reviewed the reports, stated that there had been an increase of over 1,000 daily Shakhas of the Sangh in the country in comparison over the last year. He also said there was considerable increase in the Shakha activities of college students.

Discussions on subjects on which resolutions were to be adopted at the meet, in which a total of about 375 State-level and national functionaries of the Sangh are participating, started on Friday.

First among the subjects for discussions was the increase in the presence of radical elements in Muslim community in India, including in Kerala.

Another subject being discussed at the meet is the security situation along the country’s borders. The third subject for discussion to further resolve, is the need for a development policy, keeping in mind the environmental balance.

Other subjects of importance are also likely to come up for discussion. This is the first time the RSS national executive meet is being held in Kerala.
