Attacking the Congress party, the BJP on Monday said there was “a proven charge” against former Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat for taking bribe for clearing a project in the State.
“Up to August 26, 2010, confirmed payment of about a million dollar bribe was given for the Goa project and fingers point at former Goa’s Congress Chief Minister Digambar Kamat”, said BJP’s national spokesperson MJ Akbar quoting documents from the US and FBI investigation. He said payment made to “Government officials and Minister in India” and sought to know “how much more money was given and to whom.”
“This is a tip of proverbial ice berg .. how much of this loot money shared upward to ruling family in Delhi IJ”, Akbar asked, while addressing a Press conference. He demanded a CBI probe into the alleged scam.
Describing the Congress attack on BJP leaders, including Sushma Swaraj, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Vasundhara Raje as “pseudo-aggression” and “cries of a lost child”, BJP spokesperson asked the Congress to behave like an “adult” over its threat of stalling Parliament during the Monsoon Session beginning Tuesday.
Akbar alleged involvement of its ruling family in the bribery case involving the US firm to win a contract in Goa when the Congress government was in power.
The alleged bribery of $976,630 for the project by US firm louis Berger included that to a minister, the details of which have not been disclosed by the US Department of Justice, and Akbar said it was only the tip of the iceberg.
“I am not talking about accusations. It’s a judgement,” he said, noting that the matter was probed by the FBI in the US.
