Nawab Kazim Ali Khan, who is contesting the elections from the Swar Tanda constituency in Rampur against the son of the Mohammed Azam Khan, said he is fighting a proxy battle against Azam of the Samajawadi Party.
Talking to The Pioneer, Kazim, who comes from the Royal family of Rampur, said, “Azam’s son has no political identity and he has been pitted against me so as to make sure that I don’t win in the contest.” When asked why he joined the BSP, he said, “The Congress has already lost its foothold in the State. It’s not possible to join the Samajwadi Party because of the presence of Azam and I cannot go with the BJP because the ideologies are vastly different.”
On development work, Kazim said whatever work he did was on his own merit and did not get any help from the State Government. On being asked which way Muslim votes will go, the Nawab said, “In western UP, Muslims will support the BSP. I don’t know about East Uttar Pradesh.”
Also, he is confident of sailing through. “The Hindus in the constituency will not vote for Azam’s son and the Muslims will not vote for the BJP. I sit comfortably with these votes in my kitty,” he added.
