A court in Thane on Thursday extended the police custody of two men arrested in the murder of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Pradeep Purnekar by two days, after investigators said their questioning remained incomplete and the weapons used in the crime were yet to be recovered.

Purnekar, the Shiv Sena (UBT) Manpada ward chief, was killed on September 29. He was shot before being attacked with sharp weapons.

The two accused, Santosh Kanojia alias Talli and Amit Singh alias Paplu, were produced before magistrate SB Sable, who extended their police custody by two days, an official from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) said.

The SIT sought additional custody to complete the interrogation and recover the weapons allegedly used in the murder, the official added.

Five accused have been arrested so far in connection with the case.
