As Maharashtra observed fifth death anniversary of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Friday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that necessary formalities for the allotment of the Mumbai Mayor’s bungalow for the construction of a national memorial for late Thackeray would soon be completed.
Speaking at a function after symbolically dedicating the proposed site for a national memorial for late Thackeray, Fadnavis said: “The process of handing over the site for the construction of late Thackeray’s memorial has reached final stages.
We are making all efforts to complete all the formalities at the earliest”.
Fadnavis shared with the dais with Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray at the function organised at the Mayor’s bungalow to
commemorate the fifth
death anniversary of late Thackeray.
Fadnavis, Uddhav, his son Aditya, other family members, State Ministers Vinod Tawade, Chandrakant Patil and Pankaja Munde paid homage to late Thackeray at late Thackeray’s “Smriti Sthal”, a landscaped memorial, developed at the adjoining historic Shivaji Park ground in north-central Mumbai.
Several flowering plants including Poinsettia, Petunia, Golden Cypress and Ixora, make the memorial a colourful sight. Bollards have been installed around the land-scaped memorial site, where late Thackeray was cremated five years ago.
The Shiv Sena used the occasion to score a political point over the ruling BJP. Hours after the Sena’s official mouth-piece “Saamana” slammed the BJP-led saffron alliance Government for its delay in implementing the farm loan waiver scheme, Uddhav handed over a cheque for Rs 2 crore to Fadnavis to Chief Minister’s farmers’ relief fund.
