TET candidates start indefinite fast in WB ignoring police warning to clear area

With the successful candidates of 2014 Teachers Eligibility Test examinations giving Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee the same bitter medicine to taste that she once used for the Left Front there was more problem for a beleaguered Trinamool Congress Government grappling with the school level recruitment scam.

Hundreds of TET candidates who on Monday staged a sit-in outside the West Bengal Board of Primary Education Office at Salt Lake started indefinite fast at the same venue ignoring the police ultimatum to clear the area at the earliest.

Banerjee had literally brought the then Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Government to its knees post during the Singur and Nandigram movement after resorting to a 26-day fast in Kolkata.

Demanding that they be given appointment letters immediately before the State Government went for subsequent selection tests the protesters said they would continue the with the fast “and no person can take the right to fast from us.”

One of the agitators said “if the government cannot provide us job that belongs to us … if the Government cannot restore the jobs that was rightfully ours and were sold out to ineligible candidates … they have no right to stop us from ending our lives … if we cannot live honourably … we should be allowed to die honourably.”
