A heavily armed group of terrorists has been trapped by the joint team of security forces in the upper reaches of the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district during an ongoing search operation late Tuesday evening. According to initial reports, a few rounds have been fired from both sides and the area has been cordoned off to prevent the escape of these terrorists.
Confirming the reports, Additional Director General of Police, Jammu range Anand Jain in a post on X said, "Based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists a joint search operation was launched by security forces in an area near Kabristan, Thanda Pani Khaned under the jurisdiction of Police station Basantgarh. Contact has been established and a few rounds have been fired from both sides. The area has been cordoned off".
A Border Action team of the Pakistani army had earlier targeted an Indian army post in the Macchal sector of North Kashmir's Kupwara district in which one soldier was killed in action and four others received injuries on July 27.
Meanwhile, to further beef up security across the Jammu region the Indian army has already deployed more than 3000 troops and 500 para commandos to flush out the foreign terrorists occupying 'Jammu Heights'.
In addition, 2000 BSF jawans and 2 additional battalions of the Assam Rifles have also been inducted in a phased manner to plug the routes of infiltration.
A broader consensus emerged during recent high-level security review meetings to bolster the anti-infiltration grid in the region.According to official sources, a total number of 901 terrorists including some of the top commanders of the various terrorist outfits have been eliminated across Jammu and Kashmir since the Abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
