A police post in remote Basantgarh area of Udhampur district was attacked by a group of unidentified militants late Thursday night injuring two Special Police Officers (SPO’s), preliminary reports said.
According to official sources, “a police post Sangh falling under the jurisdiction of Basantgarh in Udhampur district was attacked by at least two militants around 9.20 pm.”
Two SPO’s were injured in the attack and other policemen present in the post had taken positions to repulse the attack.
Fierce gun battle was going on till last reports came in. The militants, according to ground reports, were trying to barge inside the police post to inflict more casualties.
The senior police officers based in Udhampur have rushed quick reaction teams from the nearby police stations to effectively neutralise the militants in the area. According to reports, an Army camp is also located in the area and may have rushed its troops to neutralise the militants.
