Tendulkar attends RS first time in Monsoon Session

A couple of days after demands were made in the Rajya Sabha to expel him for his absenteeism, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, a nominated member of the Upper House, attended the ongoing Monsoon Session for the first time on Thursday

Two days ago some members including Naresh Agrawal(SP) had raised the issue of absence of nominated members including Tendulkar and actress Rekha. They demanded that the two members be expelled for not attending proceedings.

Raising the issue, the SP member had said if these MPs were not interested they should resign. The two MPs have a poor attendance record in the last three sessions, he maintained.

However, Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien refuted Agrawal’s contention saying the two members had sought leave of absence from the Rajya Sabha. Agrawal had earlier questioned the former cricketer’s and other celebrity members’ absence in March.

Tendulkar and Rekha were nominated to the Upper House in 2012 during erstwhile UPA regime. As on March 31 this year, Tendulkar attended only 23 of the 348 days since his nomination while Rekha attended only 18 of the 348 days.
