Omar Abdullah-led coalition Government on Friday once again put the much delayed Bill to provide for the better management, protection, administration and goverance of Kashmiri Hindu shrines and religious places in the State in the cold storage by referring it to the Select Committee of the House.

The Bill originally introduced in 2009 by then law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister AR Rather failed to cross the last hurdle at the end of a long debate on the floor of the House.

Most of the members sitting on the Opposition benches supported the passing of the Bill in its present form and suggested certain amendments at a later stage but the members sitting on the Treasury Benches demanded that the Bill be referred to the Select Committee of the House to remove certain lacunae in its present form.

Advocating the need to pass the Bill without holding it further CPI(M) MlA MY Tarigami said, “By delaying the the Bill, which is considered close to the heart of every Kashmiri Hindu migrant, the State Government is sending a wrong signal to the members of the community.

Tarigami claimed majority of Kashmiri Muslims support the passing of the Bill and it is advisable for the Government not to hold it further.

He said it is high time the State Government should concede and allow the Kashmiri Hindu migrants to look after their shrines and restore them to their pristine glory.
