Telugu film industry was in a shock after one of its leading actors Uday Kiran was found hanging in his house on late Sunday night. Police and family members said the actor hanged himself around midnight at his Jyothi Home apartment when nobody was home.

Police were treating the case as a suicide and his wife Vishita said that her husband had ended his life because of frustration over not getting new assignments in the films.

“He was in deep depression over the last couple of days,” she told the police. Vishita said that both of them were scheduled to attend the birthday celebration of a relative, but she went alone after he refused to accompany. She said that while attending the party she received an SMS from him.

“I called him but when he did not respond, I rushed back to home to find him hanging,” a tearful Vishita said.

Uday Kiran was rushed to the nearby Apollo Hospital and later his body was shifted to Osmania Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

As the news spread, several film personalities and colleagues rushed to the Apollo Hospital. “I am shocked. I am unable to understand why he did this,” said popular actor Srikant.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Satynarayana said that a case of suspicious death was booked on the complaint of his wife. “It appears that he ended his life over the family disputes and not getting work in films,” he said. However, the police did not find any suicide note from the scene.

Apartment security guard Krishna told the police that nobody was home at the time of the incident.

Uday Kiran, who came to limelight with his film Chitram about one and half decade ago, had married Vishita on October 24, 2012. He had won Filmfare award for his work in Nuvvu-Nenu.
