With the Hyderabad Police Commissioner refusing permission for ‘March to Assembly’ programme of Telangana supporters, the Telangana Joint Action Committee is determined to go ahead with the march on Friday next. The two sides seem to be heading for another round of confrontation, again.
While Commissioner Anurag Sharma said that nobody had approached the police to seek permission, TJAC convener Kodanda Ram said that police officials’ claim was wrong. “We have approached the Deputy Commissioner concerned for the permission,” he said.
The tempers were running high even as the Budget Session of the State Assembly began on Monday amid tight security after recess. Police had imposed restrictions on any procession or gathering of more than five people near the Assembly premises. Additional forces have been deployed and barricades have been reinforced. Police and paramilitary forces were also being deployed on all the major roads leading towards the Assembly. The police force had also geared up for sealing off the roads with barbed wire if the situation demands.
Ram said that whether the Government gives permission for the ‘Chalo Assembly’ or not, the TJAC will go ahead with it and thousands of people will take part in the march.
In a bid to mobilise the support for the programme, Ram also met the MlAs of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, BJP and the CPI. All the three parties are supporting the demand for Telangana.
The three parties raised the issue of Telangana on Monday in the Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly and urged the Chief Minister to move a resolution for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
But Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy rejected the demand and said that it was not possible as the issue was not in the hand of the State Government. The TJAC has called for the march to Assembly by the Telangana supporters to press the demand for passing of a resolution in the Assembly.
“If the Government accepts our demand, we will cancel the march programme. Otherwise, lakhs of people from all over the region will descend on Hyderabad and lay
siege to the State Assembly,” the TJAC convener said.
