The Opposition parties in Telangana on Thursday boycotted the Assembly proceedings for a day charging the Speaker Madhusudhana Chary with treating them in an unfair manner. Members of Congress, Telugu Desam and CPIM walked out of the Assembly after handing over a letter of protest to the Speaker in which they also held the State Government responsible for humiliating them on the floor of the House. The parties alleged that the Speaker was acting at the behest of the State Government and did not allow them to speak during the discussion on the new land Acquisition Bill in the House on Wednesday. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of Congress legislature party officer bearers. The leaders felt that the speaker was acting in an undemocratic manner and in violation of democratic norms. “Even when allowing us to speak our mikes are being cut off.
On the other hand the MlAs who defected from other parties to the TRS were being allowed to speak,” said Uttam Kumar Reddy of Congress. The Congress leaders also alleged that the ruling party members were interfering when the Opposition members were on the mike. Separately the TDP floor leader A Revanth Reddy also criticised the Speaker for failing to protect the rights of the Opposition. “If the Speaker does not give us the opportunity to speak what is the use our being there,” he asked announcing his decision to boycott the House for a day.
