The demand for separate Telangana was again the talk of the town in the national capital with its supporters sitting on hunger strike at two prime spots. While the Congress MPs from Telangana region went on 48 hours hunger strike at the main gate of Parliament, Telangana Joint Action Committee leaders staged a similar protest at Jantar Mantar, the protest square of New Delhi.
Five MPs from Telangana region were the focus of attention as the leaders and MPs of several other parties including Opposition leader in the lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj visited them and declared their support to them. The MPs —Ponnam Prabhakar, G Vivekanand, Gutta Sukhinder Reddy, S Rajaiah and Manda Jagannatham — were holding placards demanding Telangana. “Give Telangana, save democracy,” one of them said.
Ponnam Prabhakar said that they were forced to take this step as all their efforts to persuade the Central Government and the Congress leadership to concede the demand for Telangana had failed. PNS
