A couple from Khammam district in Telangana has become the latest addition to the long list of families claiming to be the parents of Geeta, an Indian girl stranded in Pakistan.
Following the reports from Pakistan that the activists there were looking for the family of a girl who had accidentally crossed over to Pakistan, a farmer couple of Khammam claimed that the deaf and mute girl Geeta was, in fact, their long lost daughter.
J Krishnaiah and his wife Gopamma, residents of Padamata Naraspuram village said that the real name of the girl was Rani and she had gone missing of January 27, 2006 during a Christian religious congregation in Guntur. Krishnaiah said that they recognised the girl from her images shown on the television. “She was ten years old at the time,” Gopamma said. What could nullify the claim of the couple was the statement of Pakistani Rangers that they had found the girl near the border in 2003.
