Telangana Assembly pays glowing tributes to Kalam

Telangana State legislative Assembly was adjourned after paying glowing tributes to the former President APJ Abdul Kalam on the first day of the Monsoon Session on Wednesday.

The House also paid its respects to the Congress MlA from Narayankhed constituency of Medak district who passed away recently.

While the session was likely to be very stormy as the Opposition had geared up to target the Telangana Rashtra Samiti Government on the burgeoning issue of farmers’ suicides in the State, members maintained decorum on Wednesday as the House remembered the “people’s President” Abdul Kalam and recalled his very close relationship with Hyderabad city.

Moving a resolution Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said that Kalam’s death was a huge loss for the country and the Defence sector. Born in a poor family he achieved a position to become country’s pride and brought honor to the President’s office.

KCR said that he had already written to the Centre to name Hyderabad-based Defence Research & Development laboratory (DRDl) after Kalam.

K Jana Reddy, leader of Opposition in the Assembly, said that Kalam had rendered great services to the nation not only as a Defence scientist but also as the President. “His services in the Defence sector were unforgettable”, he said.

E Dayakar Rao of the TDP recalled that his party president N Chandrababu Naidu as an ally of the then Atal Bihari Vajpaee Government had played a crucial role in the election of Kalam as the President. He welcomed the State Government’s proposal to name DRD after Kalam.

Syed Ahmad Pasha Quadri of MIM in his tribute said that the President Kalam had shown a new direction to the country and gave a vision and taught the new generation how to dream big. Even as holding the post of the President he led a life of a common man. “He has made a special place for himself in the hearts of the people”, he said.

He also supported the idea of naming DRDl after Kalam.

The Monsoon Session will resume from Tuesday after the holidays for the Eid and Ganesh festival and the House was likely to witness fireworks over the continuing suicides by the farmers.
