Four years after he was accused of allegedly raping a junior colleague former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal will finally face trial next month, a trial court ruled on Tuesday.
Additional District and Sessions judge Vijaya Pol, who chairs the fast track court which is hearing the case, said the chief examination and cross examination of the witness would be conducted over the first four days at the beginning of the trial, which is scheduled to start on February 26.
Speaking to reporters outside the court complex at Mapusa town, located a short distance from the state capital, prosecution lawyer Francisco Tavera welcomed the decision of the Court saying, that Tejpal's lawyers had repeatedly tried to delay the trial.
"They have been seeking to stall trial. They failed at High Court. Even Supreme Court has passed order that trial should begin. So far the prosecution has scored more points than the accused," Tavora said.
