More than two months into Tejpal’s arrest and, the victim has complained to the Goa Police that she has received an email with nasty objectionable content intended to defame her and expose her identity.
The police, who were earlier tightlipped over the incident, admitted that the victim informed them about the development.
“The victim had emailed us on Wednesday saying she had received an email and a photo with objectionable content... After receiving the complaint our team left for Mumbai to officially record her statement. They are on their way back to Goa now,” Mishra said.
Speaking to reporters at the police headquarters in Panaji, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) OP Mishra said that the complaint was addressed to the Superintendent of Police Crime Branch and that a team of policemen were on their way back from Mumbai after officially recording her statement.
The victim, in her complaint to the Goa Police, said that along with casting aspersions on her character, the email also suggested that Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, who has been booked for allegedly raping the victim — then a junior employee —had been framed.
“While my face has been superficially ‘concealed’ with a black strip covering my eyes, this photograph nonetheless discloses my identity by identifying the context where it was taken, as well as the other members of the photograph,” she said in her complaint.
The email, she said, was out to make her point that her body language in the photograph “did not suggest that she had been sexually assaulted.”
The Goa Police, will now make its own enquiries into the contents of the mail before deciding a future course of action which would include tracing the sender of the mail. The victim had also attached a photo of her posing with Hollywood actor Robert De Niro and Tejpal on November 10, a day after the alleged sexual assault.
"This latest attempt to muzzle and silence me can no longer be treated lightly," the victim said in her complaint.
