Three key witnesses in the Tarun Tejpal case recorded their statements before a judicial magistrate on Friday.

The recording of statements, which took the entire day, by the former Tehelka employees comes a day before Tejpal is expected to be brought to court after his six-day remand period expires on Saturday.

The three ex-employees of Tehelka Ishan Tankha, G Vishnu and Shougat Dasgupta were in Goa when the incident occurred last month and were among the first people who the victim confided in, after she was sexually assaulted by Tejpal.

Their testimony, along with that of former managing editor Shoma Chaudhury is expected to be crucial to the investigation of the investigative journalist who has been accused of allegedly raping the victim, a former junior colleague twice in a hotel elevator.

Shoma is expected to arrive in Goa on Saturday to record her statement before a magistrate, although the police are unwilling to officially confirm her presence till late evening.

Tejpal will also be brought to court on Saturday where the police are expected to demand his custody for a week more in order to complete their interrogation.

Police sources said that Tejpal has repeatedly insisted that he the sexual encounter between him and the victim was consensual.

Tejpal is accused of sexually assaulting and attempting to rape a junior colleague in the lift of a five-star hotel in Goa last month.

Earlier, CM Parrikar announced that the chargesheet will be filed within 45 days in the case or towards the beginning of January.
