Sabrang Communications & Publishing Pvt ltd (SCPPl), owned by social activist Teesta Setalvad and her husband Javed Anand, has not paid any service tax, nor has it filed returns despite the company offering various services to its clients.

The details pertaining to non-payment of service tax have come out following a letter written by Ahmedabad Crime Branch to Service Tax Commissioner Mumbai regarding service tax filing of SCPPl.

“During the course of investigation, it has come to our notice that the aforementioned company (SCPPl) has admittedly provided ‘Business Support Services’, ‘Business Centre Services’, Secretariat Services like Shared Staff cost, Shared establishment cost etc, to Sabrang Trust and Citizen for Justice and Peace within the same premises. SCPPl received Rs1,22,75,684 from these two trusts for the same services during 2009 to 2013,” said the letter dated April 27, 2015, requesting the commissioner to confirm if they (Teesta & Javed) have paid service tax on the above mentioned amount or not.
