TDP chief meets Jaya, says Cong is playing dirty over Telangana

Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu blasted the Congress for playing dirty politics over the Telangana issue. “The Congress is playing dirty politics over the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. They are violating all democratic procedures for their narrow political interests,” Naidu said here on Thursday.

He was speaking to reporters after calling on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at Veda Nilayam, her residence at Poes Garden in Chennai. He said the bifurcation should be done in such a way that both the new States should get justice. “The bifurcation should be done after ensuring consensus from both the sides,” Naidu said.

The TDP leader, though evasive to questions on his stance on the Telangana issue, took pains to explain that there was a Constitutional procedure for bifurcating States. “A State Reorganising Committee should go into the nuances of all issues before bifurcating States. The President should hold dialogues with people of the country before setting in motion the process of bifurcation,” he said.

Naidu, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, said people of both the new States should get benefit from the bifurcation. He said Jayalalithaa stood for justice for both the sides. Referring to YSR Congress leader Jagamohan Reddy’s offer to support the BJP, Naidu said the YSR Congress would ally with the Congress after the election. “What the YSR Congress and the Congress are doing right now is nothing but drama,” he said.

The TDP chief declined to tell whether he discussed politics with Jayalalithaa. During the 2011 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, he had campaigned for the success of the AIADMK-led front. But Naidu’s TDP does not figure in the Third Front floated by the CPI and the CPI(M).
