Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said on Monday that tuberculosis is a curse but the state government has identified patients on a large scale to eliminate it.

Under the Mission Shakti campaign, a discussion on ‘Dimensions of Women’s Health’ was organised on Monday at the IMA building under the aegis of the Health Department and in collaboration with the Red Cross Society. During the event, 50 TB patients were adopted and provided with nutrition kits.

Speaking as the chief guest, Pathak said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always given top priority to women.

“He has launched several schemes aimed at preventing anaemia and eliminating tuberculosis among women and children, while bringing happiness to every aspect of life. In this series, the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar’ (Healthy Women, Strong Family) campaign was conducted from September 17 to October 2, under which women and children were informed about various health and welfare schemes and benefited from them,” he said.

He added that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has consistently worked for the empowerment of women through the Mission Shakti initiative, ensuring both respect and safety for women across the state. A large number of daughters are now joining the police force, contributing to strengthening the state’s security system.

He said that the Governor has initiated a campaign to adopt TB patients, with the objective of ensuring that every patient receives timely medicines, nutrition and financial assistance under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana. He emphasised that along with medicines, proper nutrition is essential in TB treatment and expressed gratitude to the Red Cross Society for their efforts in this direction.

During the programme the deputy chief minister directed officials to visit the home of a 10-year-old girl suffering from TB to assess her condition, inspect sanitation in the surrounding areas and raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness.

Chief Medical Officer Dr NB Singh informed that the Mission Shakti campaign, launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2021, aims to promote health, safety, self-reliance and empowerment among women and adolescent girls.

During a session, gynaecologist Dr.Geetanjali provided detailed information on adolescent health and menstrual hygiene.

Dr Fatima Shiba discussed the causes and prevention of anaemia, while Dr Nirupama Singh spoke about prevention of bone diseases among women.

On this occasion, the Red Cross also provided wheelchairs and folding stretchers to the Health Department.
