In order to provide electricity connections to over one lakh farmers in the State, the Gujarat Government announced Tatkal Scheme 2013 on Tuesday. The scheme is believed to be the Modi’s brainchild.

“Under the scheme, applicant farmers who had already applied for the electricity connection would also be considered. For the new connections the farmers will need to pay Rs 500 during 1-15 November this year to convert their routine application for power connection into Tatkal Yojana application,” said Energy Minister Saurabh Patel.

Applicants will need to pay 80 per cent amount for new power connection in advance. They will need to use drip and sprinkler irrigation methods to avail the benefits of the new power connection under Tatkal Scheme.

In last fiscal year, one lakh new power connections were given, which was unparalleled in the history of Gujarat, said Patel adding that even this year the government has planned to activate one lakh new power connections in agriculture sector, which would boost the morale of Gujarat’s farmer.
