Tamil Nadu asks Centre to name airport terminal after MGR

Published on:

Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution urging the Centre to name the newly built domestic terminal-II of Chennai airport after MG Ramachandran, the former Chief Minister and founder of the AIADMK. The resolution moved by CM J Jayalalithaa was supported by even the opposition DMK and the Congress.

Moving the resolution, Jayalalithaa said this was being done as per the suggestion of Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajith Singh, who had told her to get a resolution passed in the State Assembly and send it to the Centre for consideration. She told the House that she had boycotted the inaugural function of the domestic terminal-II on January 31, 2013 by vice-president Hamid Ansari because of the indifference of the Union Government to the State’s plea to name the new terminal after MGR.                   PNS
