Gangster politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother’s custodial murder was one shameful model of the law and order in Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, his Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said.
Banerjee who has of late been under intense attack from the Opposition BJP for running a corrupt and criminalised government — that has seen a number of her Cabinet colleagues and legislators going to jail on corruption charges — apparently lapped up the UP issue reiterating how she was shocked at the brazen anarchy and total collapse of the law and order in the north Indian state.
“I am shocked by the brazen anarchy and total collapse of law and order in Uttar Pradesh. It is shameful that perpetrators are now taking the law in their own hands, unfazed by the police and media presence. Such unlawful acts have no place in our constitutional democracy,” Banerjee wrote on Twitter even as her party spokesperson Kunal Ghosh went steps ahead calling the incident “dangerous for democracy.”
