Telangana’s Chief Minister-designate K Chandrashekar Rao has started picking suitable senior officials for his administration and was in the process of identifying IAS officers of Telangana serving in other places including the Central services to bring them back.

Senior IPS officer from Telangana Shivadhar Reddy has become the first officer to be shifted back to Hyderabad. Shivadhar, who was Police Commissioner of Visakhapatnam has been transferred and asked to report to the Additional Director General Intelligence office. According to sources, he was likely to be appointed the head of Telangana’s Intelligence department.

Source said that KCR was also gathering information about the other IPS and IAS officers to fill the key posts including the Chief Secretary, secretaries of various departments as well as the special Secretaries in the Chief Minister’s office.

Similarly, he also wanted to have reliable officials in the important positions of the State police chief, Commissioner of Cyberabad and the superintendents of nine districts. As the Governor will be responsible for the law and order in Hyderabad city, the power of appointing Hyderabad city police commissioner will also rest with him.

For the role of the head of CMO, KCR was keen in bringing in S Narasing Rao, presently serving as the Chairman of Coal India. Rao, who hails from KCR's home district Medak, had earlier headed Singareni Collieries Company, a State undertaking. While KCR was initially keen on appointing Rao as the Chief Secretary, the officer was keener to play his role in CMO as Principal Secretary.

IAS and IPS officers of Telangana origin, who were so far neglected in the appointments to the key positions were now elated that they were being sought for important positions under the new dispensation.

Another senior IAS officer from the region being brought back from outside was Gopal Reddy, presetly serving as a joint secretary in Union Home Secretary. Gopal Reddy is an officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and belongs to 1985 batch.

Third important name making rounds is P Rajashekhar Reddy, presently serving as the regional Provident Fund Commissioner. KCR was keen to appoint him as OSD in CMO.

The issue of bringing these two officials back from Central Government deputation figured in the meeting KCR had with State Governor ESl Narasimhan on Monday. Narasing Rao was present during the meeting.
