Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday indicated that the Telangana Bill which was rejected by Andhra Assembly may get passed ‘in a similar way’ in the Parliament.
“Andhra Assembly has shown the way. If the Assembly okays rejection the way it was done there, then lok Sabha could clear it the same way,” Rao said on Parliament premises when his attention was drawn to the disruption of Parliament in last two days. Rao intended to suggest that the Bill could be passed amid a ruckus in the Parliament. He rejected objections raised by Seemandhra MPs saying Telangana was also region of the State with better aspirations. “How can you ignore 1,000 youths killed..how many youths you want to be killedIJ We are also part of the country..,” he said and disapproved of MPs not following Parliamentary rules and procedures.
The TRS supremo said suspension of MPs should not be ruled out. “Telangana Bill will be passed, I am 1,000 per cent sure,” he said. It is speculated that the Government may go for the voice vote to pass the Bill in view of the two-day disruption of proceedings in two houses of Parliament by Seemandhra MPs. Rao on Thursday had a 20-minute meeting with BJP president Rajnath Singh at the latter’s residence to seek his party’s support for passing the bill for the creation of separate Telangana state.
The main Opposition BJP is backing the separate statehood demand for Telangana. Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar blamed Congress for “playing double game” alleging that they were neither friends of Telangana nor that of Seemandhra. The BJP is, however, not favouring “amendments” to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill as sought by Seemandhra MPs.
