BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prosecute former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his family members under new Black Money Act and new Benami Act, citing amassing of assets abroad by them.
In his letter, Swamy said the findings of the Income Tax on Chidambaram family’s foreign bank accounts and assets abroad is enough to prosecute them under the new Acts.
Swamy asked Prime Minister to give directions to Revenue Secretary Hasmukha Adhia for prosecuting Chidambaram, son Karti and wife Nalini for holding secret foreign bank accounts and assets in 14 countries.
“The IT report found that these huge assets were acquired by means of corruption and bribes taken when Chidam-
baram was the Finance and Home Minister during 2004 to 2014. The vineyards, hotels and farm houses in 14 countries, including london, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri lanka, Spain, France and Greece, were acquired through black money and abuse of power. Hence apart from charging Chidambaram family under the Prevention of Corruption Act, DA case and PMlA it is necessary to prosecute them under the new Black Money Act and the Benami Act,” said Swamy.
The BJP leader recently brought out a 200-page analysis report by the Income Tax’s Chennai Investigation Unit detailing the 21 foreign bank accounts of Karti Chidam-
baram and his companies. The probe report also reportedly claimed that Chidambaram held property in Cambridge. Swamy claimed that ‘certain people’ in the Finance Ministry were protecting Chidambaram and family by not acting on the sensitive Income Tax probe report.
