Stepping up his attack on the top Congress leadership, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Tuesday urged Enforcement Directorate to probe Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s alleged undeclared bank account in london’s Barclays Bank and his company Backops limited.
Producing documents of the bank account, Swamy said the account is opened in the name of Raul Vinci and the address given to the bank is same as the address of Rahul’s london-based company, apart from same date of birth.
Swamy had produced the document of a credit rating agency showing all bank accounts with the same address — 2, Frognal way in london — which is the same address provided by Rahul to the company registration office for floating his company Backops ltd. In the company documents, Rahul declared himself as British Citizen in 2005 and 2006. In 2004, he had declared as Indian citizen also in the company document. The lok Sabha Speaker has already asked Ethics Committee to probe into the matter.
“With this letter, I am enclosing some bank recors of the Barclays Bank which shows that on page 5, a Raul Vinci having the same date of birth as that of Rahul Gandhi has been maintaining a current account in Barclays Bank bearing NO : 504664922071640796.
“The name ‘Raul Vinci’ is widely used by Rahul Gandhi while abroad claiming it necessary for seucity purpose. In fact he enrolled in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge in UK under the same name,” said Swamy in his letter to ED Chief Karnal Singh.
Rahul had provided his Cambridge Certificate to Election Commission with the name bearing Raul Vinci in the 2004 lok Sabha elections. According to the document provided by Swamy, the bank account was opened on July 18, 1996 and it was closed on December 10, 2014, six months after the NDA Government led by Narendra Modi came to power.
“If Rahul Gandhi is indeed found to have taken British nationality, then he will cease to be a Member of lok Sabha as citizenship of India. If one the otherhand he had never been, or is presently a British citizen, then he has as an Indian citizen broken foreign exchange law of India and therefore is subject to prosecution by the ED for having incorporated a foreign company on foreign soil without having declared the same company’s financial activity to the appropriate authorities in India,” said Swamy.
